Minutes Holroyd YCW Meeting 8-05-08

Venue: Best Thai Merrylands 6-7.30pm
Present: Paul, Anastasia, Steven, Karyn

Group discussed what they were looking for in a group, along the lines of a sustainability group. The aim of this meeting was to investigate people's ideas about what they thought could be possible and also directions to take. Paul spoke about YCW, helping people and community development.

Anastasia was interested in animals and animal wellbeing and social events. Steven is interested in bringing people together, environmental issues and social events. Karyn interest was to help people achieve the YCW mission & develop leadership potential.

Passions

Group talked in generally about what they were passionate about. In general words like sustainability, the environment came up, simple living, life systems, food miles. Refugees were also mentioned, learning where they had come from (and why), learning from refugees not to take things for granted. Transport and design of urban space was also talked about and also the peak oil problem of increasing transport costs.

Aims / Focus

Several aims were talked about. They were:

- Building and strengthening community
- Care of our environment
- Work with Catholic Earthcare Australia
- What makes us unique as a YCW group
- Focus on Holroyd LGA and research what is already occuring
- natural seasons / connected feeling people get from nature

We discussed meeting fortnightly, although Steven and Anastasia were able to meet more frequently, Karyn is travelling to Egypt and the Middle East and won't be back until 11th July 2008.

Action - Steven: What is Holroyd Council doing - research council plans and activities regarding the environment.
Action - Steven: To find out who that person is in Greystanes Rd, who is growing vegies in their front yard.
Group: Each person to research what environmental things are happening in their area / or they are connected to.
Group: Each person to make a list of their own aims for the group and select the top 3.

General Business

- Training Day 21st June "How to Start New YCW Groups".

Next Meeting - Thursday 22nd May, Venue TBA (Steven & Anastasia).
